Last evening was one of those picture perfect Fall evenings. We took a drive. We headed for an airport that is about an hour and a half drive from our home, to pick up our youngest daughter. She had just spent a week with her fiance' and his family in the Midwest.

The sights were beautiful in the early evening hours. The sun was setting and we got to be a part of another breathtaking sunset.

I had lots of time to think as we drove. Most likely this will be the last time we pick her up at the airport as a single person. It sometimes feels so difficult to believe that our nest will be empty, and our daughters will each be having their own homes. We knew full well this time would be coming, and we are so thankful for the fine men who we have gained and will be gaining, as our wonderful son-in-laws, but there is still the touch of sadness that the time is fast approaching.

Their wedding date will be here soon. We are all looking forward to the special day. January will be here soon, right?
Picture taken by my daughter on her cell phone.
We wish them the best as they make their final preparations, and as we adjust to a permanent "empty nest" chapter of life.

They make a lovely couple. I too have felt all those feelings and just sometimes yearn for a quiet evening at home with all of our children...even as teenagers.:)
Although we too have gained some wonderful inlaws whom we love as our own. It seems raising our families is a season that flew by way too fast and we were so busy to realize I would be gone before we knew it.
Your family is beautiful and I love seeing the twins and how much they are growing.

I can't imagine the day when my daughter (19) gets married. She finally has a boyfriend (her first) and we are looking forward to seeing what God has for them. Then again, I have three other children, the youngest being 7, to marry off. It will be a while before my nest is empty!

I'm with ya there, Judy. Looks like ours may be in February if the right plans come together.

It is sad when all of the children leave. It took me a little while to adjust but then I realized they would all be back and bringing the people they love and children of their own. sometimes I think life gets busier after the children leave than ever. Congratulations to your daughter and her soon to be hubby. I too can't wait to see all of the fun things you post.

Time goes by so quickly...from empty nest, to raising the family...and back to empty nest again! Wishing you all many joys as you prepare for the wedding...and blessings to the lovely couple as they prepare for the lifetime ahead.

I just love everyday moments that turn out to be so special. Your photos tell the story.

It is a blessing when someone else loves your child as much as you do.

Congratulations to all of you on the engagement of your daughter! Your family is so very blessed.

Your nest may be empty for awhile, Judy, and give you time to rest and do the things you've drreamed of doing....but then it soon fills up with the fun of grandchildren..you have the best of both worlds!
