It seems like I have shared so many farm visits over the years. We don't live on a farm, but we sure do enjoy all farm visits, whatever farm it may be. Recently, I took my two little guys(the twins), on a morning adventure. Out in the middle of cornfields and pumpkin patches,
we stopped at a local Amish farm. This was a working farm, with lots of meticulously kept flower gardens, a country store and a soft ice cream store. When we arrived, we were the first
visitors of the day, but when we left a few hours later, there were many who had found their
way to this out-of-the-way country destination.
Considering it was the middle of October, I could not believe the amount of flowers blooming.
I can't remember another fall season where flowers were continuing to bloom this late.
There were brilliantly colored Dahlias...
...and decorative grasses, which seemed to glisten in the morning sunlight.
The boys were so intrigued by the huge bins of pumpkins of all kinds, and colorful gourds.
Rows of white birdhouses were lined by the gardens, specifically for "Purple Martin" birds.
These birdhouses were full and overflowing with birds.
Out back of the store was the farmyard, with a wooden boardwalk providing views from all
directions for the little ones.
Machines filled with feed for the animals, were along the boardwalk, and of course they
could not wait to put in the quarter and receive a handful of feed.
Instantly, the animals from all over the barnyard came running to the boardwalk area.
Here one little guy holds out his arm for the goat up on his hind legs.
The boys wanted more quarters for feed, when they saw how popular they had become by
throwing feed over the rail.
Four little goats playfully stripped all the leaves from the broken branches of the old tree.
Friendships can develop among the least likely of characters. I smiled as I watched this chicken
and the huge sheep, stay close by each other.
The Alpacas seemed content to spend time together too, and appeared captivated with something
nearby.
The Rooster sure did seem to rule the roost, as she strutted over the grass.
The cute little black goat seemed perfectly content to take his morning nap on the wooden bridge.
And, yes, the feeding went on at the boardwalk, as two little guys used up
their allowance of three quarters each.
Last, but not least, was the anticipated soft vanilla ice cream cone, sold at
the front window.
We ordered two extra small cones, and this is what they got.
You can imagine their delight, with such a special treat,
as I prayed the entire way across the parking lot, that their ice
cream would remain on the cones:)
On the quiet, wooden bench, in the morning sunlight, we talked and they devoured their ice cream cones. Moments I will treasure in my heart for years to come. Most likely, when they are both
in their teen years, they won't find the same delight as they did here.
water flowed to the falls, and on to the old, stone mill by the side of the road.
Another memorable country adventure to share with you. Probably much more memorable to
the little guys than to any of you visiting here, but I do thank you for stopping by.

Wow!!!! No wonder they light up when I say "Mamaw's coming to pick you up!". What fun, fun adventures you take them on. Thank you so very much!!!
Your grateful daughter.
I can only imagine how the twins would have enjoyed that trip to the farm. As you may have seen I have twin cousins who are five, but my niece has twin boys who are four as well. I think your visit to my blog goes back to that baby shower I hosted. I'm sure it's been a busy time for you as you've helped your daughter. How they have grown and how precious to be able to share life with them as a grandma.
