Cupcake Creating on A Saturday Afternoon

I found my youngest daughter in my kitchen this afternoon...baking. She had her cupcake cookbook in front of her, and her decorating tools beside her. She has always had a thing for cupcakes. Since graduating from pastry chef school in September, she has not been in the kitchen very often due to her schedule. She has been looking for a job, and has been helping out her sister in many different and much appreciated ways. In pastry chef school, they baked almost everyday, but she did not have much experience in decorating. With free time this afternoon, she decided to attempt the art of decorating.

Quite honestly, I was impressed by how pretty these cupcakes looked. I have a feeling she will be doing a lot more experimenting, especially since she received the needed tools from her class.

This book has become one of her favorite as it has over 300 differently decorated cupcakes in it. Her desire to learn to decorate cupcakes came from her visits to the" Magnolia Bakery" in New York, and the "Sprinkles" cupcake bakery in Texas. She talks about learning the skill and maybe,...just maybe, having her own cupcake place someday.

Considering she is a novice in the decorating field, I think these cupcakes look beautiful! Of course, I am her mother, and that is how mothers are.

Your daughter looks so cute in her pink shirt holding the plate of cupcakes that matches so well. I think her cupcakes are beautiful too and look tasty as well. I wish her luck in finding a job in her field. I can already tell she will be good at it.

Well I'm not her mother and I think they look great. Pastry chefs are a good business. We have a new little sandwich shop in town with soup and sandwiches and the most outstanding deserts. She is a recent pastry chef grad. Good luck on the job finding.

Those cupcakes would look darling in a cupcake store window. I can picture it now. Happy baking to her. She's as cute as her cupcakes.

Cupcakes.... we used to make them often when I was a girl. It's funny how they are all the rage now.

And such wonderful samples too!

Great photos. Enjoy!

I'm sitting here wishing it wasn't 8:30 on a Saturday night...when all the Salt Lake City cupcake shops are closed. There are some amazing ones here with delicious cake (keylime cupcakes and peach spice are faves) but actually what I really, really want is one of the ones your daughter made. Oh yummy and pretty too!

I wish someone like her would start a "Breakfast In Bed" service, with home delivery of fabulous breakfasts. I love breakfast in bed.

OK, now I want to know how you manage to stay so lean?

It would also appear that your daughter is following hard after her mother's "little somethings" ministry. What a lovely career for an equally lovely young lady.

Now I've got to figure out how to order cupcakes in German for breakfast.

Blessings and hugs,
Kathleen

Lovely cakes and lovely daughter! Our family are really into cup cakes and we used the Magnolia recipe for our sons wedding cakes. I made mini ones for the twins first birthday, iced like toadstools. Thank you for your comments about the twins,I cant wait to see yours when they arrive...when are they due?

I saw this in my reader yesterday and man they look good! Makes me want one. She did an awesome job! I'd buy one or twelve!

Thank you for your sweet comments! I think it's neat the you remember your mom's list.

My mom made grocery lists but don't know if she made cleaning lists. I am a list maker and love lists!

Our nest will be empty in a few short years....sigh! Youngest is 16 and our oldest is in college.

I too have always had a thing for cupcakes! Love them!!! they are perfection! Cake is one of my most powerful weaknesses and cupcakes are just another way to eat an entire cake...or several entire cakes!! this post is great--Kimmie is so adorable and I love her cupcakes!
I would love to do more cupcakes at More than a Cookie! they are such a craze right now! We are currently selling carrot cake cupcakes (a recipe I got off of YOUR BLOG) did I ever tell you that????? they are one of our best sellers for sure! the other day I was doing some experimental baking with a coconut cream cupcake with coconut buttercream frosting...orange blossom cupcake with orange buttercream...lemon poppyseed with lemon buttercream...spice cupcake with caramel frosting...very vanilla... and german chocolate with coconut pecan frosting! so much fun! I would love to open my own cute little cupcake shop in Madison, Wisconsin and live near my family!
