Years ago my friend Alice brought me a package of sticks from her lilac bush. She told me to plant them and watch over the years as a beautiful lilac bush develops in my garden. Each year this bush grows bigger, taller and produces more flowers.
I have been watching and waiting for the flowers to bloom. They are not fully in bloom yet, but pretty enough to bring indoors and enjoy the wonderful aroma they create. How I wish I could share that aroma with you.
I put them in all kinds of different containers, in rooms of my home, so as to enjoy their aroma wherever I go. Thank you Alice, for a gift that keeps on giving year after year.
This photo was in my "Country Homes and Interiors" magazine. The Spring colors fit in perfectly with this post. I liked the vintage china, the glass, and the plum-colored glassware.

A flowering purple tree is right outside my screened-in porch. The deep purple flowers did not come through in this photo, they are a vibrant purple. I look forward every year to the Springtime, when it is in full bloom. Just thought I would share some of my Spring beauty with you to brighten your Monday.

Good Morning Judy. I just love to look at pictures of lilacs. As far as I know, they really don't grow here.
I'm not familiar with Country Homes & Interiors. Might have to go search that out. :)
Have a great day.
Hey Judy~
I LOVE the pictures of the lilacs. I LOVE...them. The lilacs in my yard are JUST starting to bloom...so it will be a while before I can see them outside my ktichen window.
Know that I'll be praying for you as you make your trek north!!!
Hi again, Judy,
Lilac bushes are among my all time favorites. They truly make my heart sing for joy!!

We are a little behind you when it comes to spring flowers...it will be a few weeks bedore my lilacs are blooming. They are the true fragrance and colour of spring!
I'm beginning to know how my friends from the Canadian Praries feel when I post things they are still dreaming about. You seem to be about 3 or 4 weeks ahead of us in your garden. . I can't wait for the lilacs to bloom, they are amoung my favorites.
O this is beautiful Judy and what a sweet friend you have to have given you such a lasting gift!
This reminds me of my Grandparents home when I was a little girl. Every Spring the lilacs would bloom outside of the house window and Grandps (what I called him) would get on the ladder and go up high and cut a nice piece for the bedrooms/living room/etc for Grandma and one for me which I would put in my jelly jar (smile) with some water.
Thanks for bringing back one of the few beautiful memories from my childhood.
Love you.
Good afternoon Judy. I just love Lilacs too. We planted a bush the first year we were in our home forty three years ago. I love the smell, and like you, I place them in containers all over the house. Your flowering tree is absolutely lovely. Things are just starting to bloom here. I hope you have a happy day :>)
I love lilacs! My parents have some in their yard...would I be able to just take a branch or two and then plant it? I didn't know you could do that?
Hi Judy,
I wish this were a scratch n' sniff blog as I would love to bury my nose in those beautiful lilacs. I love how they smell. Unfortunately they don't do very well here. When I lived in Michigan they grew so well and I always loved to bring a bouquet in the house. Thanks for sharing yours.
Enjoy your day.
your blog is so good
Oh how gorgeous!!! I love lilacs so much. I have a sweet and special story I think you will enjoy. My mother-in-law is in her 80's. Nearly 50 years ago when they moved into their home, her friend (ironically also named Alice) gave her a starter for a lilac. She planted it and then waited every year for it to bloom. It never bloomed once...until last year. She was so patient and enjoyed the tree without the blooms for so many years. As you can imagine, she was absolutely thrilled to see it bloom last year. This year, it seems to have even more beautiful blooms. What a delight is has been to her! (and all of us, as well!) = )
Beautiful lilacs! I love their smell too! I love your idea of placing them all over the house. Now I can't wait for mine to bloom so I can do the same! :)
What a beautiful home...it must smell delicious!
Stay Cozy, Carrie
Wow.......JUDY those pics are just gorgeous.....every single one. cherry
Early good morning Judy! It's 4:35a.m. and I couldn't sleep. I love your lilacs. We had a lilac bush right outside my bedroom when I was a child. It's too hot here for lilacs, but we have beautiful wisteria every spring. Yes, the Blue Monday pictures were from my Saturday wedding. Have you ever had a chance to visit my web site? All of the pictures on there are from past weddings and events I have planned and coordinated. Take a look some time, especially in the galleries. www.grandoccasions-inc.com I think I'll go balance the checkbook and put on a pot of coffee. I'm going to try and start posting more regularly. Hope you have a wonderful day!
Hugs,
Elizabeth
Hi, I LOVE lilacs! Lilacs were the first flowers I remember as a child. I would pick them off our bush in our yard in upstate NY and bring them to my Mom and watch her smell them and smile! I love it when my Mom smiles, so special a gift from Heaven! Thank you for posting this post!
