Oranges...I was told they were what my father-in-law
received for a gift when he was a young boy.  My
mother-in-law told me the other evening, that he was
a young lad when our country was coming out of the great depression,
and oranges were considered a treasure to be received.

Oranges...were a part of our simple celebration too,
on Christmas Eve morning.

They graced the center of the table during the breakfast...

...to being peeled into the kitchen trash can later in the morning.  I can't tell you how this
sight pleased me when I walked into my kitchen later in the morning and found these two.

...with the final detailed peeling taking place on the living room sofa (yes, it was
a special occasion and I was okay with peeling oranges on my sofa).  Who would have thought
that the sweet, little orange fruit would still be a favorite in our life today.  Some things just
never go out of style:)

Just a little something from the celebration we had in our home the day before Christmas.

Were oranges a part of your celebration too?

Oh, how precious! I remember my Dad's first church always fixed stockings for all the kids in the church (all 10 of us) and they had apples, oranges and nuts in them and we were thrilled too death. My, how times have changed.

We'll be celebrating tomorrow evening after our daughter and Grandson arrive.

And, there is a bowl of oranges on the kitchen island.

Blessings to you!

I love the Clementines or *Cuties*…I keep them in my fridge and love them on a salad! Oranges remind me of Christmas because we always got them in our stockings when we were young!!

What a great post. So glad oranges are still special at your place...as they are at ours...though now we start orange season in October.

My memories of Christmas past always include oranges. We got them in our goodie bags at church...and at home the wooden crates of mandarin oranges were opened just before Christmas.

Love that photo of the two peeling oranges and your theme on why oranges are special to your family. How times have changed with all we have today! My dad, as a young lad in Germany, after the war was rummaging through trash for food and was so happy to find an orange... only to realize it was not good.
Thank you for this reminder to give thanks for the simple things.
