The second of the two catalogs that my husband brought home was the
Fall and Winter catalog from 1922-23.
From the bright colored cover to the 669 black and white pages of merchandise, it has been most interesting for us to look at. I hope you enjoyed some of the pages that I chose to share with you.
As the beginning page states, it truly is a "turn back the hands of time..." experience.
Wouldn't we love to buy a dressy winter coat for $ 10.00?
The radio sure has come a long way since the Twenties.
Boys all wool winter coats like this, would be difficult to find at any department store today .
This might give my talented seamstress sister-in-law a new idea for her apron creation business. I wonder if she ever considered making some "apron dresses"?
Boots are big this year, just as they appeared to have been back in the winter of 1922. Warmth and style...what could more could a woman need for the cold months!
For $ 1.00 - 2.00, one could buy some warm shoes for young girls. It seems to me that these shoes would last through many years, and could be passed down from daughter to daughter. I am sure that would been the purpose of their sturdy construction.
The add states that the "new ear wave is becoming to women of almost every type". Perhaps we should bring this fashion back today. What do you think? It would help me on the days where I don't have time to wash my hair:)
Modesty reigned during this period of history.
My husband has been price shopping for four new tires for our car, which is why we both found this advertisement so interesting. What a vast difference 91 years have made!
I hope you have enjoyed the few moments we spent together, "turning back the hands of time."
Thank you for stopping by today.
A special thanks to Shawn, for allowing us to rummage through your old gas station.

Some things, though old, look surprisingly like the things of today....with a different price tag!!! :)
Judy first, Happy New Year!
That was a fun read, amazing how cheap everything was...though not at the time. Especially loved the apron dress :-)
Hugs!!!!
This is another great catalogue....I have a catalogue which belonged to my husbands grandmother, I think I will look for it and post some photos of it too.
Oh the hats are just grand! The dress styles...well, I have sewn from the 1920 patterns and tried on dresses from that era. It is such a rebound from the corseted shaped figure era. The 20's style dress is designed for a totally flat chest narrow hipped woman. Curves do NOT work with the style at all!
I totally love "vintage" (especially since I'm becoming so myself :)
Sometimes I think I was born into the wrong era. I love the flapper music of the 20s, the Norman Rockwell lifestyle of the post war years, & the work ethic of farm folk. I am glad, though, we no longer have the same bathing suit styles!
