It was a "vintage game night" for the girls in my extended family.
It was hosted by my oldest daughter, at her home.
"Hostess Hattie"(on the above game card) was there to greet us, in all of her splender. The old game cards she purchased at the local "Reuzit Shop", punched a hole in them, added a touch of glitter, and tied them onto each cellophane bag of her homemade granola. How clever!
Recently she has been making a new granola recipe. I have been privileged to have tasted it before, and was thrilled to receive another bag of it. It is the first time I tasted granola with Rice Krispies included in the recipe. Maybe if you request it, she will share the recipe with us:)
The brightly colored tray of favors fit in perfectly with the evening's theme.
What an act of kindness for this busy mother of six to offer!
I can't imagine how she possibly hosted this "game night", and all with a smile on her face, especially after the crazy day that she had just come through.
Not everyone was present when the games began, but the dear blond on the left is due any day with her third baby. We thought maybe the fun and laughter might bring it on. We were wrong. We tried! "Password" was the game of choice for the evening. You just cannot imagine what we can do with a game as simple as that. We laughed until we were crying.
The vintage game vignette on the food counter. Seeing the boxes of old games, certainly brought back memories for me.
I did the simple prizes for the evening. I found these sturdy red boxes for $ 1.00 each, at the dollar store in the mall. I placed six homemade muffins in each one.
I will give you the one apple recipe I used, in one of the next posts, because I thought it tasted so good.
I decorated each box with a vintage stove picture that I copied, from a past "Romantic Home" magazine. I added some touches of glitter and some extra tags, with kitchen stickers.
If you have a dollar store in your mall, you might want to buy some of these for baked goods, to give over the holidays. There are all kinds of fun ways to festively decorate them.
And, if you want to have some fun in the midst of daily life, why not host a "vintage game night"?
Recipes for the apple steusel muffins and rice krispy granola, coming tomorrow, in case you are interested.

She's had some great lessons from her mom!
What fun!
What a perfectly wonderful idea...I can honestly just imagine the fun you had. VERY clever gift bags...I for one am asking for the recipe!
Sounds like a fun evening for all.
Loking forward to the recipes!

That sounds like so much fun! You girls know how to live well. :)
Looks like a great time.
We recently played password and I was surprised how bad I was at it. Who knew it was such a tricky game! Fun but tricky.
What pretty favors! I don't know where your daughter finds the time. I never thought to use cards such as these. It's another great idea I learned from you. Thank you so much. I hope you are having a good week.
This night looks like it was amazing! My family and I have game nights at least once a month and our kids and other family and friends love it! My husband and I just purchased a Spinning Wheel and we give out similar prizes to the muffins that were beautifully decorated by the red boxes. So adorable! I will have to try that next time!
