My Adventure in Blogging

This picture will be explained at the bottom of this lengthy, and possibly somewhat boring post.(if, you make it through to the end).

Warning...long, wordy post ahead.

This is it...rolls of ribbon on a paper towel holder.! The first picture that I ever shared on my newly created blog, quite a long time ago. It was a simple and not real exciting creation on my kitchen counter, that my daughter photographed and before I knew it, I found her sitting down at our family's computer and giving birth to "justalittlesomethingforyou" blog. At that point in my life, I did not even know how to operate a computer. She said, "Mom, you must start a blog and share things like this(a silly paper towel rack turned ribbon holder)." I remember thinking why in the world would I share something that is this simple, in the blogging world? Actually, if truth be known, I had no idea what the blogging world consisted of, nor why I would have wanted to be a part of it. Afterall, computers were intimidating to me, and staying away from them was my solution to that intimidation.

Well my friends, that was some many, many posts ago. Here it is, January 15, 2010 and I find myself in a situation that I never dreamed I would be in...blogging and enjoying it. Finding new friends from all over the world, learning new and interesting facts on a daily basis about everything possible, sharing joys, sharing heartaches, being inspired in so many different areas of life...spiritually, creatively, artistically, through food and recipes, through photography, through family times, through travel, and through the beauty of nature. Bottom line, my life has truly been enriched by my years in blogging.

There are times when I am too busy, or too emotionally spent, or simply find myself facing the computer screen with a blank feeling and nothing to share. There are times I did post blogs that when I looked back, I could not believe that anyone would find it of any interest whatsoever. And yet...the comments would come from the kind hearts of many out there in blogland.

As for my list of "favorite blogs" on the side of my blog, the list that I have wanted to update for the last few months...well, I must tell you that it has been causing me some stress. There are just too many blogs out there in blogland. There are the ones that I visit everyday, ones that I could not do without and find myself considering their originators, my good friends. Then there are the newly discovered blogs that I find late in my evenings, when free time is available to me. There are the blogs I go to for inspiration, for creativity, for recipes, for encouragement, for decorating skills, for photography, for nature's finest, for scrapebooking inspiration and for the privilege of seeing pictures from all over the world. My list of favorites on my own computer continues to grow, as I continue to make new exciting discoveries. My dilema...how to share some and not others? How do I share such a long list of favorites? Quite honestly, you are all becoming my favorites, because each of you have something new and unique to share from you and your world, for which I am so thankful. Until I come up with a solution, I will not be touching my "favorites list", even though your blog might have become a new one of my favorites. Those who know me well, know that sometimes my way of dealing with a perplexing situation, is to "just stick my head in the sand" until I know what to do as a solution.

For today, this is such a minor problem in light of the world news and the devastation of Haiti that is continually before us. This is so minor!

Thank you for allowing me to share my heart. Thank you for taking the time to read down this far into my post today. But, most of all, thank you to each of you for creating and sharing your blog, your daily posts, and your interesting and kind comments with me. I also want to include a sincere thank you to those of you who may not have a blog, or may not have time to commment, but that visit my blog on a weekly basis. Your visits are special to me. It is a journey I never expected to be on, and blessings that I never expected to receive. Thank you from my heart!

This happens to be my "500 something" post, and I want to giveaway a "little something gift" to celebrate.

Three simple glass bud vases that come together in a box from Pottery Barn. Because I could not get my computer to cooperate with me today, the vases are pictured at the top of this post. I have a set myself and use them often. They seem to add a touch of beauty to whatever.

I will put every comment that I receive in a glass bowl, and have my husband draw a name on Sunday afternoon.

HELLO BLOGGING WORLD. Can I say that this blog is awesome and that I really like to read it? I remember your first blog and though I never have actually followed through on a blog of yours - if I needed a ribbon organizer I would know where to go.

Also...please pick me (because I know you pick the winner whoever is most deserving). Lauren is nice and all...but I would love to be the winnner!

You don't have to put my name in the drawing. I was just curious to read when you said you had a long boring post and then I was impressed by your posting 500 times. Wow, that's quite a feat--I recently passed 100 and realize how impressive what you've done is.

The point of this comment is not to win anything but to convey to you what a blessing your blog is to me. I happened upon your blog through reading others. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and am inspired by the beautiful pictures of your countryside, projects and food ideas. Thank you for the time you give. God Bless You.

Hooray to your daughter for gently coaxing you into the blog world. You have added so much to this wonderful community. I always enjoy my visits and am continually inspired by your posts.
Congratulations on 500 and something. I do believe I have read them all because I remember the ribbon idea. I think that is one of the things I especially like about your blog. There are so many nice ideas that aren't terribly complicated to achieve. Often after I read them I think "why didn't I think of that"
LOL.
The vases are so beautiful and it is so sweet of you to do this giveaway.

Dear Mom....
I am SO proud of the outstanding way in which you conquered your intimidation of the computer (in general)and then of blogging...with such creativity, discipline and variety! Wow!!!
You are pretty amazing. And on top of it, you are world's best 'mawmaw'. Thank you SO much for watching the twins tonight. Annie was a little dissappointed though, as SHE wanted to stay at 'mawmaw and pawpaws' house!

Congratulations on continually creating a much-loved blog!(and, of course, please don't enter my name in the contest. I am 'lucky enough' to be your daughter!)
Love you,
J.

I have found myself checking in over here many time in the few weeks since I found this blog. I so relate to the many reasons you love to blog. It's the same thing that has happened to me. There are spiritual 'nuggets', home and recipe ideas, fun, fellowship., real friendships.. I think you've expressed it perfectly!... I also don't know how to add to my blog favorites, there are so many that I love, so my head joins yours 'in the sand' on this one.

Blessings, keep 'em coming!

I am soooooooo very happy your daughter coaxed and convinced you to start Just a Little Something for You. When I think of all the joy, kindness, creativity, inspiration and grace I've known through you, your wonderful posts and your faithful comments...I just have to thank God for you all over again! = )

I can understand your dilemna. I am constantly discovering new blogs I would love to add, but I haven't updated mine in a long time for that very reason. (Seems we both favor the head in the sand approach!)

Congrats on 500 some posts! To go from being intimidated by a computer to this amazing blog is quite a feat, my friend. May there be many, many more!

Sweet blessings,
Tracy

Who knew that my oldest sister would become such a blogging icon in one short year?? I remember getting calls with questions like "where's the button that turns my computer on again?" and "how do i read the emails that you sent?" :) And now look at you...you're a pro! :) I, too, have learned many things from this blog and have some favorite recipes that my family adores, so we ALL thank you for taking the time to post new ones, i get quite cranky when you don't...and if you want to put my name in a few extra times because of my nice comment i left, that will be fine! :)
Love you!!

I am so blessed by your sharing and your comments when you visit. I agree it is too hard to list all the blogs that I love on my sidebar because there are so many. I too have been amazed at the blog world and am enriched by it. Congratulations and thanks to your daughter that we've all been able to meet you.

I love your simple style! Keep sharing! Connie

Ever since we 'met' I have enjoyed coming to visit. Oh yes, I do know about the happy dilemma of all my favorites and how to stay in touch with each blogger, who is special in her/his own way.

I'm happy to congratulate you on your 500th posting and to share a comment for the give away. Very pretty vases.

And I loved your 'simple' idea of using the paper towel holder for ribbon.

Happy Day!

"500 something", huh. Who'd have thought that when first we began crafting a profile, much less our first posts?

Well, I (for one) am so glad you stuck with it. Yours is always a refreshing stop, like visiting a well-designed gift store, or a specialty bakery, or ...... Anyway, you get my drift. I just enjoy browsing and sittin' a spell with you.

I haven't figured out the blog roll thing yet, either. Right now I'm posting all of them. Well, maybe not ALL, but at least those I've visited often, or that have visited me more than 5 times or so. By the time I'm done it'll probably be three feet in length.

Blessings, friend. You pass enough of them my way, that's for sure!

Judy you always have so much to share with us. I just love coming here. I have learned so much from you. Did you see my recent post about Orange Scones? I cutlittle angels out of butter like the hearts you made. They were a Christmas hit! On my post I inserted a link back to you. Thank you so much. I think you are such a special person. I love how you have such wonderful family values. I love all of the stories you share. It has been such a pleasure to blog with you the past year ♥

Hi Judy!
You are one in a million -- and I know I am among the many who are so glad that you started (and continued with) your blogging adventure. And to think it all started with ribbon on a papertowel holder!

I've missed you -- and hope you are well!
