We discovered this attractive, colorful, and busy roadside stand recently, about 10 miles from our home.  We were cruising along a country road when we passed it and my husband was kind enough to turn around and go back to it, as he knows that I enjoy exploring such places.

I must tell you that I bought a box of fresh, tender baby lima beans from the cooler, and the last two evenings I've relished every bite as I served them with our dinner.  It has been a long time since I've tasted that delicacy.  What is your take on baby limas served with dinner?

cauli 'flower'

A table filled with cauliflowers was the first thing that greeted me upon entering the country store.
In all of my fifty some years, I have never seen yellow or purple cauliflower.  I stood there staring, and the nice lady attending the store said that it is the varieties that they grow.
How interesting!  I think I will stick with the original white whenever I cook this vegtable.

It does remind me though, that I saw a recipe that reminded me of one that my mother so often made in our home.

It is a delicious way to serve cauliflower, and they pictured it served with green peas surrounding it.
What a pretty way to serve a healthy vegtable!

You can find a colorful picture and simple instructions to make it here, along with many other mouthwatering recipes;

One never knows what one will find when driving through our part of the country.  To me, it is like a treasure hunt, on the rare moments when it happens.

Happy Thursday to each of you, whether you like limas and cauliflower. or not:)

We like to stop at places like that. We've been stopping to buy peaches this summer. :) I'll pass on the lima beans.

How nice of your husband to turn around so that you could visit the farm stand. It looks like a great outing on a fall day.
I wonder if the purple cauliflower tastes the same as the white? As for lima beans, I love them especially if they are tender. I don't think I've ever had them fresh though. I always have a bag in my freezer, however.

How beautiful! The colors fall and the flowers and pumpkins are coming into my home later today when I go to WalMart! :)

The califlower serving idea reminded my of growing up and my mother always served a huge vegetable platter for her "company" dinners at Christmas. The center had the whole head of cauliflower, steamed, and frizzled with ground of ritz crackers crumbs sauteed in buter, and a big pile of green peas, a pile of glazed carrots, and a pile of corn, all surrounding the caluiflower. Can you tell this brought back some memories?? I can almost taste it!

I honestly don't think I have ever had fresh lima beans...only from a can. Fresh is always better...that I know! Interesting shades of cauliflower. But I would choose white as well. Cauliflower with cheese sauce...simple and delicious.

Hi there, What a find; I think I'd make this a regular stop! I hated lima beans growing up but then found out, as an adult, they are so good. I've never seen them fresh here and I don't buy frozen food but I may just have to try some. The colorful cauliflowers look so different-it would be fun to try it in a salad.
Thanks for sharing.

Yours is definitely "farm country". I love the Amish ambiance associated with it. We have a valley just below where we live, the Orting Valley, where many a roadside farm stand is placed. I love visiting them; and I can always count on the best & freshest in produce.
