I read a quote by H. Jackson Brown, author of the famed "Life's Little Instruction Book". It says, "Always have something beautiful in sight even if it's just a daisy in a jelly glass."
It just makes me happy to have touches of beauty in my kitchen. That is why I wanted to share this bouquet of light pink tulips that my sister brought for me. She got them at Costco and gave them to me as a hostess gift, when she came for dinner. They are still so pretty. Makes me want to invite her for dinner again real soon.
They make me smile every time I sit down to the table. Would you agree with me?
Even now that they are opened, they continue to add elegance to the kitchen.
I change the decorations on my kitchen island as often as I change my blog banner:)
A few years ago, my sister gave me a glass carafe, and my daughter gave me the rose creamer and sugar that are there now.
I added some faux green ivy, a string of tiny white battery operated lights, and a simple bird nest, with pink butterfly to the glass carafe.
I like the look that it creates.
A strand of tiny white lights makes everything look better.
You can buy them inexpensively in any craft or garden store. This strand requires 2 AA batteries and lasts a long time.
I rescued this green iron shelf from the garage, where it held some old cans of paint. I brought it into my screened in porch and added some vintage items from
our home. I strung some tiny white lights around the back of it. I like how it turned out. What fun to shop through one's house and attic. I do wish I was more skilled at creating vignettes, but this is okay with me. The pink glass butter dish in the second to bottom shelf, was purchased at an old barn sale years ago, by some dear friends.
On the same shelf is this old glass painted sign, just like my grandma had in her home. My daughter found it at a flea market and gave it to me. It reminds me of my grandma every time I see it.
What a comforting promise for me in the world today.
Just a few simple touches of beauty, in my home tonight.

Everything you touch has beauty written all over it. I love your reminder of your grandmother. I have a jar of buttons in my room for my noni reminder=) I also have the bird house and the topiary on your bottom shelf...the green bakers rack that I spray painted black and put on my back porch to hold garden hoopla. I like your style ;)
The tulips are so pretty! I love to have fresh flowers in the house. Sometimes, just a sprig or two of nasturtiums in a jelly jar are fine for me.
: ) Kris
You mus have such a pretty home. If I was you I would invite your sister over each week for a fresh vase of flowers :)
The pink tulips from your sister are so pretty and I do agree with you... they make me smile too. In fact this entire post made me smile. I like your pink polka dot background and beautiful header photo.
I do have to disagree with one thing you said. I think you are very good at creating vignettes and your baker's rack is charming. It would be very nice to sit in your screened porch and admire each and every piece. The sign like your grandma's is so pretty and comforting.
One last thing in my long comment, I had never thought to put battery operated lights in an apothecary jar. What a great idea. I know what I'll be looking for next time I'm at Michael's. Thanks for sharing that tip.
Oh I had never read that quite before-so true! Your flowers are beautiful. How neat that you can enjoy the sign that was your grandmothers as well as be encouraged from what the sign reminds us. Thanks for sharing!
Such a wonderful goal to Always have something beautiful in sight . I think you do it everyday without even knowing.
Such pretty flowers and sweet things in your kitchen. I especially love the painted sign. I have several of them and purchased one at the fresno MCC sale when I was there.
Wish I'd found a shelf like that. You inspired me! I had seen some interesting things down in the basement of our 126 year old home and decided to go shop down there. I made it to the bottom of the steps and saw a big spider web like the ones in the old Tarzan movies. I'm insisting Handyman do some housecleaning now so I can shop! Will let you know!

Those are tulips? Beautiful!
I love stopping by to see your pretty changes, header and island.
Great inspirations.
Your little glass painted sign is just like one Lovella bought at the MCC sale in Fresno. I wonder if the same person painted it.
You are so cute with how you like to have something pretty to look at... the pink tulips are just that.
