I like to make changes around my house.  I am often pulling things out of storage and putting the things already out, back into storage.  Maybe I get bored with things the same and just like to have another look.  This metal sieve was my grandmas and then my mothers.  I have memories of helping each of them using the sieve to make our applesause each summer.  My grandma and I would can the applesauce, and my mother and I would freeze our applesauce. 

About ten years ago, my mother discovered a Sauce Master food strainer.  It makes the applesauce making so much easier and the old metal sieve was put in storage.  Today, I took it out and placed it on my kitchen counter with a faux green plant.  I do cherish the memories it holds for me, every time I walk past it. 

Did any of you ever use a metal sieve similar to this one?

I did see recently, when I was browsing through my "Flea Market Style" magazine, that another metal sieve was pictured.  In this one, she uses it to hold lemon slices on an outdoor tablescape.  Her metal sieve must have been around for a few more years than mine was, although I thought it was a good idea to serve with my summer pitchers of iced tea.  By the way, I really like this newly created magazine.  It contains many great ideas in using one's "old" things in new ways.  Very creative group of people that put together this magazine.  Of course, I do like "old" things.

Speaking of "old", I was organizing one of my cupboards recently, and I came upon the above picture.  I remember when my grandma gave me this picture of my great grandma and grandpa, and my great-great grandparents.  It was taken in 1903.  I treasure the picture, and do wish that I would have had the privilege of knowing them.  My grandma did tell me many stories of them and for that I am thankful.
