Today, for nostalgic reasons, I was reading back through the carefully and lovingly written baby book that my mother kept for me.

In a simple, vintage way, without fanfare, it was stated..."A baby girl arrives".

With a colorful, vintage style baby announcement card it was shared with family and friends that I indeed had arrived.  My mother tells the story that she grew up with seven brothers (she was the oldest), and up until the moment that I was born, her doctor assured her that her little BOY would soon be arriving.  Thus, the fact that I was their first baby and I turned out being a little girl, she was elated.

She wrote down every little detail that could possibly be shared about me, including all that I ate at each meal and how many times I brushed my teeth as a toddler.
I had a happy childhood and so many special memories.  I was given two brothers and two sisters.  And I was the self-appointed "mother" that kept them safe and alive:) (their stories are endless and embellished a bit, each time they are told).  You know, it all seems impossible to me that here I am 57 years later...

...as a grandmother to little ones like I once was.  Today, I treasure each moment.  I thank God continually for His undeserving grace, mercy, and care in my life. I thank God for my journey on this earth, and for the family and friends who help add joy to my days.  I am thankful too for all of you who visit my blog and allow me the privilege of sharing my life with you.

So precious Judy! My baby book looks almost exactly like yours!

How blessed we are to be the ones who get to love on this new little generation, and teach them about the certainty that Jesus loves them! :)

Happiest of birthdays to a VONDERFUL GOOT mother and 'mamaw'!!!!! We were so happy to be able to celebrate with you last night!! (and quite relieved that we were able to locate two Nuks and an iphone with Blues Clues on it to tone down the 'rhetoric' from one end of the table!!!). ;) LOVE how, based on the face shape alone, there is no denying Johnny is your grandson!! :)

I smiled all through this post as you shared your mother's excitement on the day a baby girl came into her family.
I hope your birthday has been a day filled with all things that bring you happiness.
Your blog continues to be a blessing to me as do your kind comments when you visit me. Thank you for that, my friend.

Happy 57!
My mom filled out such book, beginning three weeks after your mom filled out yours. Mine included a page for a middle aged photo...wonder if this will be the year such a photo is added?

It's amazing that one day your mom was doing all the motherly things to you that I am doing to my little girl! I am so glad you were born. You are a wonderful mom and I am SO thankful for you! Love you!

HAHA... Once again, this is Your daughter, not your son-in-law. He asked me to make the clarification.:)

So thankful for the beautiful lady you grew up to be; a kind hearted neighbor to some city folks that blew in to the apartment next door. Our lives have never been the same!! Blessings to you!

Happy Birthday, my friend! I'm a little late with the wishes...but think you deserve more than one day to celebrate. I can imagine your mother's joy on your arrival...after living in a world of boys! Wishing you many blessings as you celebrate another year...and in the journey that lies ahead.
