I like to make changes around my house.  I am often pulling things out of storage and putting the things already out, back into storage.  Maybe I get bored with things the same and just like to have another look.  This metal sieve was my grandmas and then my mothers.  I have memories of helping each of them using the sieve to make our applesause each summer.  My grandma and I would can the applesauce, and my mother and I would freeze our applesauce.
About ten years ago, my mother discovered a Sauce Master food strainer.  It makes the applesauce making so much easier and the old metal sieve was put in storage.  Today, I took it out and placed it on my kitchen counter with a faux green plant.  I do cherish the memories it holds for me, every time I walk past it.
Did any of you ever use a metal sieve similar to this one?

I did see recently, when I was browsing through my "Flea Market Style" magazine, that another metal sieve was pictured.  In this one, she uses it to hold lemon slices on an outdoor tablescape.  Her metal sieve must have been around for a few more years than mine was, although I thought it was a good idea to serve with my summer pitchers of iced tea.  By the way, I really like this newly created magazine.  It contains many great ideas in using one's "old" things in new ways.  Very creative group of people that put together this magazine.  Of course, I do like "old" things.

Speaking of "old", I was organizing one of my cupboards recently, and I came upon the above picture.  I remember when my grandma gave me this picture of my great grandma and grandpa, and my great-great grandparents.  It was taken in 1903.  I treasure the picture, and do wish that I would have had the privilege of knowing them.  My grandma did tell me many stories of them and for that I am thankful.
I think some of you like "old" too, because you continue to visit me at my blog:)

I have one just like that in my cabinet given to me by my MIL from her mom. If it works for you, it'll work for me. Let me dig that out now :D

What a precious memory - love that "old" photo! And it doesn't surprise me that you found a creative use for that sieve!

I love the old family photo. I sure see your resemblance in the grandmother on the lower right!

I'm another one that gets bored with the way things are in my home. I love moving furniture around, or changing color themes. Nothing like a fresh look to put a bounce in one's step.

Blessings,
Kathleen

I love the photo immensely! When my Dad passed away last year, I got some of his photo albums and they are just priceless to me.

Don't you wish you could hop into the picture and talk to them?

OH yes...I have certainly used the cone strainer for making applesauce. I am like you. .putting things away and taking out "new" things for change. I love gathering ideas from fellow bloggers ..and that is why it is so nice to visit you.

I love 'old' things too. Especially old family photos. I am tracing my family tree and am so excited when I find someone I havent come across before!
I love your strainer, I particularly enjoy old kitchenware.
but I visit your blog for many more reasons than 'old'!!

Yes, Mother still uses her sieve but I don't use mine as much - Victorio Strainer does the job now.
And I don't visit your blog cuz I think you're old - I think you are amazingly creative and resourceful and I get to 'steal' wonderful ideas that make me look creative and resourceful. =) I can imagine the folks in the photo listening to you with pride as you share the wonders of your life today.

When I think of the many reasons why I visit your blog, old doesn't even enter the picture.
I like how you have used your sieve and I especially like the rich memories associated with it.

Great old picture! I'm thinking I still have my applesauce sieve downstairs. I think it's time to put it to new use!

Oh, Judy! I have a fruit press just like the one you have ivy in, but I still use mine to make applesauce. My mother gave it to me for a wedding shower gift 38 years ago so I would have one just like hers. I'm sure there are products that do a better job, but I still use this one. You know me, it's that "old dog new tricks" thing. Love your blog and all your great ideas.

I used a metal sieve ever year when making applesauce with my kindergarteners. It gave then a feel for the "old ways". But like you, I've found an easier way to do it in "real life". Perfect place for your plant.
