A crystal clear blue sky, bright Sunday. Our church service was cancelled due to snow. I had a few free hours. As I sat by the window with my cup of coffee, I found myself being drawn in to the sights in front of me. Funny thing is, I was the one who would roll my eyes when my mother would talk freely about "her birds". When she left for a few months and insisted that I make sure her bird feeders were kept full, I smiled and promised, knowing in my heart that it was not a first priority item on my busy list. And, here I was this Sunday morning sitting inside my kitchen window with my camera. I am going to share these pictures with you, knowing full well you too may be rolling your eyes that I would be sharing bird pictures on a blog post. If that happens...just click onto another blog...I will understand...

...but if not, you may find yourself being totally amazed at the beauty that I captured. Beauty that I never could have created, but thankfully I know the One who did.

Their colors and lines were perfectly designed and their colors were a vibrant blue.

Icicles were everywhere sparkling in the morning sun. I do not remember seeing this many icicles since I was a child.

I remember so clearly the joy we found as children, breaking off icicles and eating them. Isn't it interesting how little things can evoke fun memories?

The sky was so blue and the white snow caused a beautiful contrast to the pine trees by the house.

I believe this is the female Bluejay. Am I right?

The little birds flocked to this feeder. The first Robin of the season, was one of the visitors this morning, although I did not get his picture. What is the name of this bird, dear bird loving friends?

Yes, we all know that as we age we start to become our mothers, no matter how we think that will not happen to us. Her bird watching and enjoying took over my Sunday morning just as she said would someday happen. This is the window I sat beside as I snapped pictures of the little creatures that she calls "her friends"...

...and slowly they started to become "my friends". I love you, Mom!

Sweet, sweet post, Judy! You're right, in so many ways we do become our Mothers! I really enjoyed your bird photos (although a few years ago, I too might have rolled my eyes!); ) I never paid much attention to them until we moved into our home nearly 9 years ago. There is a tree line behind our house and the very first morning we woke up here, we looked out the window to find two bluejays. I had never seen them before and thought they were the most beautiful birds!

Your photos are beautiful. Definitely striking contrasts!

Judy, we love to feed the birds too. My husband has been traveling alot lately. Each Sunday he refills the feeders to make sure every bird is happy. We have lots of bluejays and cardinals. They are so pretty in the snow.

Your mom will be happy to see that you have done this favor for her.

Beautiful Judy, just beautiful! My mother in law used to be just like that with birds, and we would all smile and shake our heads. Is it part of getting older??? Now we get such a kick out of those same things! We laughed when she phoned us and said 'go and look out the window right now and see that full moon!"... If she could, she would be smiling right now!

Okay, i simply CANNOT allow this post to go "uncommented!" I am trying my darndest to keep my eyes from rolling completely out of my head right now. WHO ARE YOU???? I don't see you for a week or so and you turn into OUR MOTHER!!! Oh my gosh, I thought it was someone else's turn to watch you this week....Deb???? Well, i can see there will definitely need to be an intervention or as we tell you..."let's have lunch, Judy". :)

So interesting you wrote on this, Judy. As I was home all week with little Gracie, we watched the blue jays come and peck at my flower boxes on the porch while she ate her lunch. She called them "tweet, tweet, tweets". I started looking through her eyes, and actually slowed down long enough to notice! I love it.Thank you for the beautiful photos.

You did a great job of capturing the scene outside your window today. I hope you are planning to show your mom the pic's!

We have red-winged blackbirds at our feeder this week...and some little finch...and NO snow anywhere to be seen.

Cracking up at your sister's comment.
My sis and I need to intervene for each other once in awhile too :)

The birdie pictures are cute though!

You won't see any eye rolling coming from me. I have been feeding the birds for years and always enjoy watching them at the feeders.
The freshly fallen snow has provided a most beautiful setting for your photos. The blue jays, the blue sky and the pure white of the snow is absolutely gorgeous. I love this post and I hope your mom gets to read it, because I'm sure she will love it too.

Have a wonderful day.

Judy, you know I love to feed the birds! Your photos are lovely! I believe the little brown bird is a sparrow. Birds are so much fun to watch ..and relaxing for the mind and spirit.

We did not get as much snow as you did over the weekend, but we may have a bad snowstorm on Wednesday.

I did not roll my eyes. My favorite birds to spot are cardinal pairs...bright male, duller female...both beautiful.

I didn't roll my eyes, just laughed because I see my mother becoming her mother and my sister and I becoming our mother. My grandmother was a great bird watcher and knew all their names and their calls. She would have them eating out of her hand-what a wonderful sight it was. Now I wish I knew how she did it. Your pictures are great. Thanks for sharing your memories.
