Today's Nostalgic Moments

It happened to me this afternoon as I manuvered my way through the isles of the crowded isles of the local Dollar Tree store. In the front part of the store, amidst the Christmas gift wrapping section I spied them...some of the most beautiful gift bags that I have seen this season. And then for some reason,as I stood there staring at this vast array of gift bags, I was transported back in my life to the days of my childhood. As I stood in this crowded store for a few minutes, with the store sound system belting out the favored Christmas carols, I found myself suddenly nostalgic. So many memories overtook me. Memories of another time and place...memories that have not surfaced within me for a long time.

I remembered the many snowmen I helped to build with my brothers and sisters, and what a big adventure that was for us, hat, scarf and carrot nose included. Mom always had cups of hot chocolate with marshmellows waiting for us when we came in from the cold.

Ice skating memories...I have them and they happened at a pond about 1/2 mile from our house in town. When we got to go it was a real big event. Skates for five children was no easy feat, not to mention dad's valiant efforts at trying to teach us all to skate. Then there was the staying warm factor as it was usually so bitter cold when the pond was frozen hard enough for us to skate. Recalling in this brief amount of time, I do remember some of us begging to go home soon after we began skating. These skating memories were just the best, and had not been recalled to my mind for a long, long time. Who would have thought that a gift bag with a skating scene would do this for me. I loved these precious memories!!!

This gift bag scene was magical to me. I wanted to be walking on this brick walkway amoung the lit luminaries and snow covered trees. It seemed like a much better place at the time than in a crowded dollar store with some impatient and frustrated holiday shoppers. I was surprised at these nostalgic moments that overtook me on this Saturday afternoon especially since that characteristic is not usually an aspect of my personality. I purchased the scenic gift bags with the glittered real life pictures for a dollar each and decided to share the moments with each of you. My wish for you, that you may be blessed with a few happy, nostalgic memories in this special Christmas holiday.

Those pretty scenes definitely seem preferable to a crowded, noisy store. It sounds like you have a lot of wonderful memories to look back on.

Thanks for sharing. These pictures remind me of my grandmother and the wrapping paper she always used. Beautiful.
