"Silent Night"

"SILENT NIGHT"
"Silent Night" was written in 1818 by an Austrian priest named Joseph Mohr. He was told the day before Christmas that the church organ was broken and would not be repaired in time for Christmas Eve. He was saddened by this and could not imagine Christmas without music. Deciding to compose a carol that could be sung by the choir to guitar music, he sat down and immediately wrote three stanzas. Later that night the people in the little Austrian Church sang "Silent Night" for the first time.
Silent night! Holy night!
All is calm, all is bright.
'Round yon virgin mother and Child.
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Sleep in heavenly peace.
~story from a small gift book called "Christmas Is..."
